"Excuse me, son. This is my home
race." Nicky Hayden punted
teammate Andrea Dovizioso off
track in the final set of corners.
tered. He set a new record on lap
18, and won by 3.495 seconds.
But it wasn't over for the other two. Now Pedrosa started to
close again as Lorenzo ran into
tire trouble.
"I wanted to finish second,
going at my pace, but it was
difficult to keep it as the tires
started to go," Lorenzo revealed
later. "Then suddenly the rear tire
dropped so quick, so much, in
one lap. It's never happened to
me before like this, but this time it
happened big."
Lorenzo was unable to defend
himself from the dogged Pedrosa, who took second with three
laps to go and immediately pulled
clear. He described his race as
"tough, tough, tough – but also a
tough situation. I'm surprised and
very happy to be in this seat."
The problem was physical.
"The Honda is normally moving a lot, and you need a lot of
energy to control it – you need
to be very agile on the bike and
move around," Pedrosa said. "My
riding was very static, because I
felt stiff, but in the last laps I had
something left."
There was fine racing down
the field, with a stirring battle for
fourth that just kept getting better.
