Moto3 Max Quiles (CFMOTO Gaviota As- par Team) claimed his ninth victory of the season at the Red Bull Ring, capitalizing on David Almansa's (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) crash to extend his Moto3 champi- onship lead to 131 points. Almansa led the opening laps after taking the holeshot, with Quiles, Brian Uriarte (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Alvaro Carpe (Red Bull KTM Ajo) forming the lead group. Quiles moved into second by lap three and began chasing Almansa, but the title contender crashed at turn 2b on lap eight, handing the lead to Quiles. From there, Quiles controlled the race to secure his ninth win and give himself a mathematical op- portunity to clinch the champion- ship at Motegi. He needs to leave Japan with at least 150 points. Uriarte finished second, five seconds clear of teammate Carpe, who completed the po- dium and moved into second in the championship. Eddie O'Shea (GRYD Racing) scored a career- best fourth, ahead of Guido Pini (Leopard Racing) and Casey O'Gorman (SIC58 Squadra Corse). KTM also secured the manu- facturers' championship with Quiles' victory. Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup Archie McDonald (Joe Rascal Racing) became the inaugural FIM Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup Champion after a dra- matic doubleheader at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Oscar Gutierrez (Niti Racing) dominated Saturday's opening race to claim his fourth victory of the season, but McDonald did ex- actly what he needed to do, finish- ing second just 0.885 of a second behind the Spaniard. Wild card James Rispoli (Joe Rascal Racing) completed the podium. The result gave McDonald a crucial advan- tage heading into Sunday's finale, while a clash between Andrea Ian- none (Niti Racing) and Eric Grana- do (Joe Rascal Racing) eliminated both riders from title contention. Granado bounced back in race two to claim victory, beating Guti- errez and wild card Kyle Wyman (Wegner Automotive x KWR) to the flag. McDonald, meanwhile, rode a calculated race knowing that a points finish would secure the championship. The Austra- lian brought his Harley-Davidson Road Glide home eighth, doing enough to seal the title by nine points over Gutierrez. McDonald finished the inau- gural 12-race season with 202 points, nine podiums and victories at the Circuit of the Americas and Silverstone.
