two seconds before Fong closed
the gap and took control with
two laps remaining. Fong won by
1.006 seconds, with Petersen sec-
ond and Kelly third. Beaubier was
fourth, followed by Beach.
Scholtz finished 17th after a
shift-linkage problem, further
denting his title aspirations.
"I knew I had a little pace at the
end," Fong said. "I just kept chip-
ping away, slowly but surely. I was
trying to hit my marks. A few times
I was out there, and I was over-
charging the corners and having
some big moments. I'm like, 'Man,
I better back this thing down.' I saw
Cameron coming back to me, so I
had another lunge at the end. Hell
of a race. It was great."
In Superbike Cup, Andrew Lee
(Real Steel Honda) swept both
races and clinched the champi-
onship on Saturday. Lee finished
