Mike Kidd and Jay Springsteen shared wins—and
the Cycle News cover—at the Indy Mile doubleheader
50 years ago... Kent Howerton came away with
the 500cc National MX Championship over Gary
Semics in New Orleans... Heikki Mikkola won the
250cc World MX title in Sweden by one point...
We rode the 1976 Suzuki RM 100A and said
the two-stroke motocrosser was a "quick-
turning motorcycle with fine-handling
characteristics."

Aaron Yates made front-page news for winning his
first-ever AMA Superbike National at Sears Point 30
years ago... For only the second time ever, the U.S.
Trophy Team finished on the podium at the ISDE in
Finland. And for the first time ever, a U.S. team won
the Club Team division... Kevin Atherton scored his
third GNC win at Hagerstown Speedway... Jeremy
McGrath won the Binghamton 250cc MX.
