result of the season. "I was riding well in the first moto and I felt good before making a mistake there late and losing a position," Hampshire said. "Second moto, someone flinched off the gate, and I was pretty dang close to dead last. I went down another two more times before putting in a heck of a charge to get me fifth overall. On a day where I wasn't overly comfortable, we'll take it." Things took a dramatic turn for points leader Hunter as he convincingly won the opening moto and seemed to be further extending his championship lead in the twilight rounds of this season. While running third in moto two, the points leader crashed going down The Wall and severely twisted his bike in the process. Lawrence, seem - ingly uninjured, tried to salvage the race but opted out after cir- culating outside a points-paying position. A 1-39 put him eighth overall and 10 points back from Jett in the series standings. Dylan Ferrandis finished sixth on the day ahead of newly crowned Australian MX1 champ Jed Beaton. Hunter still took eighth overall ahead of two New York natives, Justin Cooper and Justin Barcia. 250MX Much like the 450 division, the 250-class points seemed to be settling down until the second motos. It was the point at which Davies took full advantage, and by winning the second moto, he also claimed the day's overall at the last round in Washougal. "Today was really good for the injury I had coming in," March- banks said. "I rode basically one and a half days this week. I was coming into today hoping I could turn out two strong motos, and I really showed that. I showed that my fitness and speed are still good. I tied my best overall result with a 5-4 moto score." RJ Hampshire rounded out the top five for his second-best two rounds at Budds Creek and Ironman Raceway but said this isn't a full-time comeback. "I have no expectations for results," he said in the days leading up to the race. "But I want to go there and enjoy my time, learn more about our bike and what we can improve on, and be an ambassador for Liqui Moly Beta Factory Racing and all our partners. It's a unique opportunity with the team doing outdoors this year, and the timing just worked out." Unadilla Notes: Unadilla was part of Pro MX's inaugural season and is the oldest venue in American motocross, founded in 1969... Cole Davies' 12th career SMX League victory moves him into the top 20 on Yamaha's all-time win list… Up until the first moto at Unadilla, Levi Kitchen had not led a lap in the 250MX class since round three and hasn't won a moto since round two. Briefly... (Above) Haiden Deegan led early in race one but finished third overall. (Left) Hunter Lawrence's day went from good to disastrous after winning the first moto but crashing in the second. Here he tries to ride a twisted machine before retiring from the race. VOLUME 63 ISSUE 33 AUGUST 18, 2026 P73
