Taking place the same weekend as the Toyota AMA Motocross National in Buchanan, Michigan, this event offered many local Experts and Pros a chance to make some money and have a great weekend among friends and family without traveling too far from home. Among those lining the gates for the first money race of the weekend were Yamaha-mounted Jimmy Albertson of Missouri and Honda pilot Robbie Smith from nearby Guthrie, Oklahoma. When the gate slammed down, it was Smith nailing the start, with Albertson close behind. Not one to settle for second, Albertson made his move early, and then Smith stayed hot on his heels. Ryan Voit, aboard his Kawasaki, stayed close for third all the way to the checkers. This pattern played out over almost every single moto for the Pros, as Albertson and Smith played chase for the crowd throughout the weekend. Albertson is also the first Pro in the three-year history of this race to sweep every single money race possible, taking all eight moto wins. But as the weekend ended, good sportsmanship prevailed, as the two top Pros gladly high- fived one another and had nothing but praise for each other. "Ah, man, this weekend was awesome, and the track was pretty good," said a sweaty yet smiling Albertson. "It got dusty a little, but it wasn't too bad. Robbie [Smith] made me work hard, for sure; he was right there all weekend." Also making a splash on Saturday was Honda of Houston rider Terren O'Dell. One of the country 's prominent 85cc specialists, O'Dell jumped on a bigger bike on Saturday to compete in the Schoolboy and 125cc Intermediate classes. O'Dell not only dominated both of those big-bike classes aboard a borrowed Honda CRF250R, he dominated the 85cc O p e n e v e n t a s w e l l , s e n d i n g a s e r i o u s m e s s a g e t o h i s competition for 2007. Throughout the two-day event, Engine Ice was the sponsor of a few class holeshot awards. Over 30 Amateur rider Bobby Bowles took both holeshot awards on Saturday, while Cody Lee and O'Dell took the honors in Saturday's 85cc Open motos. Sunday's Engine Ice awards went to Kawasaki rider Ashleigh H a l l a n d A r k a n s a n H u n t e r S w e a t i n t h e c o m b i n e d Women's/250cc Novice contest. R.D. Johnson and Ricky McReynolds shared the honors in the combined 125cc Novice/Intermediate motos. RESULTS Saturday 50 BEG: 1. Preston Wilson (Suz); 2. Jordan Welborn (KTM). 50 (4-6): 1.
