turn and crashed and was like
'Well, that did not go well.' "
Race two saw a much
smoother moto for Deegan as
he started up front with both
Lawrence brothers and kept
them within sight for the first
10 minutes. He eventually lost
the tow but found himself all
over Jett's rear wheel after the
Honda rider's crash. Thanks to
Jett's penalty, Deegan went 4-2
for third on the day and secured
back-to-back podiums for the
fast so I didn't want to come on
going slow. It is what it is."
Jett eventually passed for
the lead at the halfway mark,
but another mistake saw him
go down and hand the position
right back to his brother, Hunter.
The mistake saw him give up
more than 10 seconds, but a
hard-pressed effort in the final
few laps saw Jett close in right
at the finish line. The one-posi-
tion penalty dropped him to third
in the race,
going 1-3 for second
on the day. He gives up another
two points to Hunter and now
sees a 12-point deficit with three
rounds remaining.
"Today I was just a little too
aggressive with the throttle in
that section," Jett said about
his crash. "I just blew the rear
through that one rut that I was
in and into the next, and that
was enough to get both wheels
sliding in a slick spot. My riding
is definitely not the problem; it's
just silly little mistakes. For this
track being my worst, I felt like
I rode very, very well, and I'm
happy with that."
Haiden Deegan grabbed
another overall podium, his fifth
of the season, but once again
did it the hard way. The 450MX
rookie came out firing and set
the fastest qualifying lap for
the first time this season. He
carried that momentum into the
first moto where he crossed the
holeshot line first but immedi
-
ately tucked the front end and
fell.
For the second week in a
row, he remounted in dead last
and was forced to claw his way
back to an eventual fourth.
"I was like, 'Finally a holeshot,

arm injury. "I'm pretty irritated
with how the day ended today,"
Marchbanks said. "I was feel-
ing comfortable and fast on the
track. I just had an unfortunate
crash coming out of the rollers.
My back end started to swap, and
I ended up landing on my arm
pretty awkwardly. I got checked
out by the Alpinestars medical
crew and confirmed nothing was
broken. I'll head back and get
an MRI on Monday and go from
there. Hoping a bit of rest during
the two-week break will do it
some good."
Washougal Notes: Hunter
Lawrence's win was Honda's
800th SMX League victory, the
first OEM to reach this historical
milestone (Kawasaki is second
with 737). Jett Lawrence's 33rd
450 Motocross podium moves
him into the top 15 all-time, tying
Chase Sexton, Kent Howerton
and Jeff Stanton. Ryder DiFran-
cesco had never finished higher
than third prior to this weekend.
