Tuesday - .luly 4, a day normally set aside lor barbe- cues and firework - found Group Two at the hal{ mile, where the heat and humidity would continue to stille all in attendance until a storm blew in, delalng racinS but bringing some relief from the heat, which lasted the remainder of the week. lt was back to the half mile on Wednesday for Grorp One competitors. Thursday was the debut of the TT with Group Two rrying out rhe track llrst, followed by Group One the next day. After an AHRMA Vnage program on Saturday morning, Group Two took to the famed "Magic Mile" to get in some prac- tice before dark. Then the heals and mains were run under the lights. ln the 50cc Junior (4-6) class, Chase Hoffmann and \ /ade whrd both eamed 84 poi s. These guys took tums on the Podium and rode like future champions. Cameron Smith and D€rr'in Owens rounded or]t the field for the week. Jeffrey LowerT laid claim to the number- one plate in the Drew's Motorcycles hemier 50cc (7-8) Stock class. Robert Hall won rouM one at the short track, with Lowery finishirE second. Ryan Varn€s (son of GNC rider Kevin Varnes) won round two, Hall was second, and Lowe./ linished third. The half mile was Lowery's, as he was first to the checkers, followed by Vames and Hall, Lowery also won the TI clinching his first-place trophy. Hall took second overall, followed by Vames, David Grief and Cayde Schmulbach. Kyle l'4cGrane siarted the week with a third-place short-track finish, behind liislarl Avery and Jake Fell, but his week would r€al- ly come together as he scored wins on both the half mile and the TI eaming himself the number-one plate in the 50cc Pee Wee Shaft Only class. Avery was second, followed by Bq/ce Hazen, Hall and Cody Chisham. Schmulbach won every 50cc Pee \4be (4-8) Stock-class race except the TT Cody Annable dethroned him at that race, with Schmulbach having to settle for second, Annable finished second overall, followed by Alec Espos and f4cGrane. Jake Lewis and Ethan Gillim battled in the 65cc DTX (7-ll) class, joined by Lowery. Kole King and Daniel Bromley also saw their share of the aqtion, but in the end it was Lewis whh the win. followed by Gillim, Lowery Bromley and King- The Service Pavilion-sponsored 65cc l"lodified (7-ll) class saw Gillim take the gver-all win. Lewis finished second to Gillim all week except in the TT where he Pulled off a win. The third podition rotated at each track: V$/aft Anderson placed third at both short track; then Brandon Shelstad took over for the half mile; and Nick McFadden was third in the TT Overdil. Shelstad earned third place, followed by McFadden and Anderson. The 85cc DTX (9- 13) class was the first race of the DTGC. Although lan Keith won round one and .lacob Cunnirgham won the half mile, it was the consistency of Hayden Gillim that would earn him the coveted number-one plate, as he finished no worse thar second in this clas5 at any time during I the four days of racinS. At the end it, was Hayden Gillim, Keith, Cunningham, Austin Medrano and Bromley. Hayden was also victorious in the Bruce Transportation 85cc Modified (7- l l) class. "l like to win," Hayden commented, "but reall/ it doesn't mdter if you win or lose as long as you have fun.'' Just recovering from a broken elbow, Hayden appearcd to be having los of fun both on and off the track. He was followed in points by Keith, Lewis, Briar Baurrnn and Medrarrc. Jacob Cunningham tried for a clean s:weep in the 85cc Modified (12-15) class, but Cody lohncox was having none of that, as he claimed first place at the TI Behind CYCLE NEWS.
