Between brothers Eric and Ben they have a combined total of nine wins at the famous Northern California racetrack they call home. By the time the first race of the weekend was over, that number had iumped to l0 with Eric flying the family colors and winning the Formu- la Xtreme final. Eric's win was his l3th in the Formula Xtreme class, a win that ties him with Miguel Duhamel at the top ofthe all-time- wins list for the class. The youngest Bostrom brother's weekend started off slowly, and the limited amount of practice because of the cramped schedule only made things worse. "l was surprised how slow our week- end started, really,'' said Bostrom. "l knew that we had a good bike coming into this thing and it was like the wheels came off Friday morning. I don't know if I was iust too tryped or ifthe racetrack was iust that tricky, we stru8gled and these guys wenr fast straight from the begin- ning. I was thinking, 'What's going on? This is my place.' " But when the green flag dropped it was the Bostrom of old Eettin8 the holeshot frqm the outside of the front row and he never looked back. Bostrom's teammate lason Disalvo fol- lowed into turn one, with Aaron Gobert, Josh Hayes, Michael Barnes, Danny Eslick and the rest of the 28-rider lield in tow. Bostrom was able to pull out a small gap by the end of the first lap, leading DiSalvo to the line by six to eight bike- lengths, the New Yorke. in turn holding an equally large gap on Gobert. The real battle forming early on was for sixth through ninth, with Eslick battling Rockwell Honda teanrmates Ty Howard and young gun Ryan Andrews, with British import Jeremy Mcwilliams in tow on the Warrs factory Buell XBRR. Lap three saw things slowly spread apart at the front, while the Andrews- Eslick-Howard-l'4cWilliams battle only heated up, First Andrews ran wide in the Iinal corner, allowinS Mcwilliams to get by. Eslick continued his sliding ways, bat- tling Howard at the front of the group with his bike seemingly sideways more than it was inline. Howard then dipped under Eslick into turn one on the start of lap four', with Eslick running off the track in tum five, and having to park the MPT Racing Suzuki. This left Howard with a small gap on Andrews, who had in turn put some distance on Mcwilliams. While this battled unfolded, Aaron Gobert was brought into the pits after jumping the start. doing a stopafld-go and returning to the action in ninrh position. At the front Bostrom was slowly able to put a 8ap on DiSalvo, stretching his lead out to just over two seconds by the halfway point of the ls-lap race. And once the leaders hit traflic, Bostrom only further cemented his wire-to-wire victo- ry at one point stretching his lead to over four seconds before finally winning by 2,509 seconds. The win was the fourth in the last five FX flnals for Bostrom. "Well, after how slow our weekend started, this feels really good." said an elated Bostrom after taking his first class win at Laguna Seca. "lt wasn't easy out there, though, these guys pushed me real- ly hard. I just kept looking back and seeing Jason right there, lap after lap, and it seemed like he wouldn't budge. As things wore on I was able to get a little gap, but it wasn't easy. I really wanted this one and it feels really good-" DiSalvo was back on the podium again, finishinS in second after not being on the box for the first time all year at the previ- ous round in Utah. "lt feels really good to be back on the podium again and to get lome more poins on Hayes," said the young New Yorker, who now leads the championship by six poinB leaving Laguna Seca. "The pace at the front was incredible. Eric and lwere running strong and I was riSht there, but around the sixth or seventh laps he really put in a couple fliers and he was able to get away. I lost some more time in tra{fic, but at that point the race was pretty mu€h decided." "l just kind of had a rough time, didn't get a good start. and things only went from bad to worse in the race." said third-place finisher Hayes. "They were running a good race and I just couldn't make any headway on them- I was ham- mering really hard and I was trying, but I iust couldn't make up any time. I had a good bike, good tires, but they iust rode better than me today."
