Young Clinches Sixth Canadian Superbike Championship B en Young clinched his sixth Bridgestone Canadian Super- bike Championship after winning both Superbike races at Grand Bend Motorplex, July 11-12. He secured the title with one round remaining. After qualifying alongside pole - sitter David MacKay on Friday, Young wasted little time assert- ing himself in Saturday's feature, riding his Honda CBR1000RR-R SP to a commanding victory after 20 laps around the fast 1.4-mile Grand Bend circuit. Young crossed the finish line 3.806 seconds ahead of polesit - ter David MacKay, giving Honda a one-two finish, while Jordan Szoke completed the podium on his Kawasaki. BMW rider Zoltan Frast backed up his front-row qualifying performance with a strong fifth- place finish, despite a low-speed crash late in the race while battling Szoke for the final podium spot. Young won Sunday's 20-lap feature, crossing the finish line 5.572 seconds ahead of Frast. Frast capped his standout week - end with another podium finish, while veteran Szoke rounded out the top three aboard his Kawa- saki after an intense, race-long battle that left just 0.120 of a second between second and third at the checkered flag. Van Winkle continued his impressive form with another fourth-place finish, while Alex Mi - chel and Kyle Newman finished in the top six. Sunday's race featured late drama when Saturday's runner-up MacKay crashed out of the lead with just four laps remaining. After setting the fastest lap of the race and appearing poised to challenge for victory, the Honda rider was unable to continue, ending what had been another outstanding performance.
