R i c k y C a r m i c h a e l b i d a f i n e farewell to the Unadilla Valley Sports Center after turning in a dominating 1-1 performance f o r a n e a s y o v e r a l l w i n a t round six of the Toyota AMA Motocross Series, held on the legendary course near New Berlin, New York. According to the Makita Suzuki rider, the race was his last at the facility, as he will be riding a limited schedule in 2007. Carmichael has openly stated that he doesn't like riding on the rough and rocky course, but despite his feelings, he still has a pretty good record at Unadilla, having now won six of his last seven AMA Motocross Series races there. The win was his fifth straight of the series this year and his third sweep. "You know what? This was a good way to go out at Unadilla," Carmichael said. "I don't know if it was the rain or the new design, but I thought that in areas the track was a little bit better; I will be the first to give credit where credit is due. But it still doesn't change my thoughts on the place, and you know what, it's a free world, and we are allowed to have an opinion." Carmichael's run to the top step of the podium was made a little easier when both his main rivals, James Stewart and Chad Reed, crashed and sustained injuries dur- ing Sunday morning's practice sessions. Stewart's injury left him watching from the sidelines all day, while Reed's injury was one that he was willing to deal with - in spite of the pain. The combination of Carmichael's per- fect day and Reed's injury-hampered 4-4 performance left Carmichael with a 44- point cushion in the series standings over the Team Yamaha rider, with six more rounds to go. "This was an awesome day for points," Carmichael said. "James wasn't here, so I made up some points, and I don't know what happened to Reedy; supposedly he got hurt in practice. So I did make up points; it was a good points day for me, and I am looking forward to keeping it going." Perhaps the two things that kept the Unadilla round from being a boring race were the return to form of Kevin Windham, who turned in a 3-2 perform- ance for second overall, and two holeshots by young Honda rider Davi Millsaps.
