Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra made its first visit to the prestigious Festival
of Speed at Goodwood this year, and enjoyed the experience so much that
they want to do it again next year.
"It was a great deal," said Alstare Suzuki rider Troy Corser. "Just to come
out here and see the about of people and the prestige that this events holds is
just great. I had heard of it before, and when we found out it didn't conflict
with out schedule we were on it. And I'm really glad I made the trip."
The Festival of Speed is one of the most famous vintage-motorsports events
on the calendar, with over 150,000 spectators making the pilgrimage to the
small town outside Sussex, England, each year to see the top stars of Formula
One, MotoGP and World Superbikes close up.
The whole event is the brainchild of the Earl of March, and takes places in
the grounds of his estate at Goodwood, which is transformed into homage to
two and four wheels for the three days. This was the first year that the event
has not clashed with a World Superbike race, so Team Alstare took the oppor-
tunity to be there with current World Superbike Champion Corser and two of
their 2006 GSX-R1000 K6 Suzukis. Their stand, in the Formula One paddock,
was adjacent to Suzuki's BSB team and backed by the 1960s Honda F1 cars of
John Surtees. Surtees is the only man in history to win world titles on two
wheels and four - a feat that is unlikely ever to be repeated - and himself and
Corser spent a good deal of time together.
