but Maximo Quiles (Aspar KTM)
was left spewing by the conclu-
sion of the previous week's race
at Brno,
where he was nerfed out
of the lead by compatriot Brian
Uriarte (Ajo KTM). Assen was
a chance to put that right and
reassert some control.
He did just that. Luring his
rivals into a false sense of secu-
rity, Quiles fought among a lead
group
of 12 riders for the first 10
laps, with David Almansa (In-
tactGP KTM) and Hakim Danish
(MSI
KTM) also in contention.

clear of Alonso. Then came his
mistake. A touch wide through
turn 15, he then defended on the
inside entering the chicane.
"I was focused on overtaking
him on the brakes, but suddenly
Manu went right. There was no
space there, so I thought, 'Let's
try on the outside,' " Alonso said.
Going around Gonzalez's outside
slowed the pair midcorner. Agius
tried to accelerate by on their
inside, only to lift to avoid slam

ming into his teammate.
Alonso won an
all-timer by
two-hundredths of a second,
with Gonzalez two-tenths clear
of Agius. Guevara, Ivan Ortola
(MSI Kalex) and Holgado com

pleted the top six.
Gonzalez increased his
lead
early fighting with Pramac Bos-
coscuro teamsters Izan Guevara
and
Alberto Ferrandez plus Dani
Holgado (Aspar Kalex).
As IntactGP teammates Man-
uel Gonzalez and Senna Agius
didn't
get through that group until
lap 10, Alonso built up a one-sec-
ond advantage. Yet come lap 13,
Gonzalez
was with him, with the
Spaniard taking control on lap 17.
It looked to be a two-way duel,
only for a fastest time on lap 18
to bring Agius into the fold.
The race was deliciously
poised in the closing laps, but
Agius soon found his front-tire
pressure rocketing behind the
two bikes ahead.
