He then had four laps to
overturn a nine-tenths deficit, a
challenge the weekend's fastest
rider, so good on used rubber,
would surely be up to. Marquez
made it not so. Some quite in
-
spired riding maintained the gap
over the final laps. Only when he
nearly tucked the front exiting
the race's penultimate turn did
Ogura get a whiff. And by then it
was too late. Without question,
this was among Marquez's best
post-2020 injury wins.
"I'm extremely happy with
this win," Marquez said. "It was
somehow an unexpected one, as
I was sure that I would struggle
towards the end. It did happen,
actually, but the others were
not quicker than me. I believe
the bike had more to it, but I
wasn't able to make the most
of it, especially in the change of
direction between turns six and
seven, which is normally one of
my strong points but where I was
instead losing time. I'm taking
each Grand Prix as it comes, and
right now, I'm enjoying the mo
-
ment. We'll have a test tomorrow
and then head straight to Assen."
"It was a good surprise, the
performance this weekend,"
Ogura said at the end of the
weekend. "Qualifying was nice,
and in the Sprint, I had a good
pace. In the main race, I think I
had even better pace towards
the end of the race, but Marc
had a little bit more than me,
and I finished second. Overall, I
think my team and I are really,
really happy about our weekend.
We could improve one of our
weak points, which is qualifying,
and in the main race we did our
