Hakim Danish (MSI KTM) be-
came only the second Malaysian
to
win a Grand Prix and the first
to do so in dry conditions, de-
spite a grid penalty that dropped
him from
second to 14th.
The rookie was deemed to be
riding slowly in Q2, but he didn't
let that affect him. "I tried to
forget about the penalty. I made
some good overtakes to get
to Maximo [Quiles] and David
[Almansa] as soon as possible.
If not, I'd lose them."
It was an inspired tactic. By
lap two, he was fifth as Quiles
(Aspar KTM) dragged Ajo KTM
teammates Alvaro Carpe and
Brian Uriarte, along with polesit-
ter Almansa (IntactGP KTM),
Danish and
Veda Pratama (HTA
Honda) away from the pack.
Quiles and Uriarte took turns
leading at the front. But Quiles,
clearly superior to the field on
Saturday morning, found his gear-
ing wasn't ideal in the blustery
conditions
and struggled to pull
clear. At no point was he able to
shake off his five pursuers.
The championship leader's
reputation was given scant regard
in a thrilling finale when Uriarte
ran into him exiting turn nine. As
both sat up, Danish sped through,
gaining enough of an advantage
to avoid being dragged in on the
final rise to turn 13.
Danish hung on by four-tenths
of a second, with Uriarte sec
-
ond and a furious Quiles third.
Almansa, Pratama
and Carpe
followed, with a second covering
the six.
Quiles' championship lead
with 186 points is still healthy.
Carpe (121) is 65 points behind,
with Uriarte (92) now third.
