Cannon Breaks Through In High Point WMX
C
harli Cannon delivered a
breakthrough performance
at High Point Raceway, captur-
ing her first career overall victory
at round three of the Women's
Pro Motocross Championship,
powered by Synchrony. The Quad
Lock Honda rider's victory not
only marked a major milestone in
her young career but also brought
an end to Altus Motorsports
bLU cRU Yamaha rider Lachlan
Turner's remarkable streak of
seven consecutive WMX over-
all victories, dating back to last
season.
The weekend itself unfolded
with relentless intensity, from
a chaotic first-turn pileup to a
race-stopping red flag and a mal-
functioning holeshot device. The
action was as unpredictable as
it was dramatic, making it one of
the most eventful rounds of the
championship thus far.
With the arrival of her 17th
birthday, making her eligible to
compete in the pro ranks, SLR
Honda Racing's Mayla Herrick
promptly delivered a breakout
performance during the first moto
on Friday. The rookie wasted little
time establishing control at the
front, launching into an early lead
while chaos unfolded in her wake.
JPM Kawasaki's Taylah McCutch-
eon struggled for traction on the
crucial double jump, momentarily
stalling the pack and creating a
decisive gap. With much of the
field unable to double through that
section, Herrick seized the oppor-
tunity to break away and establish
a commanding advantage.
Behind her, two-time FIM
Women's Motocross World Cham-
pion Lotte van Drunen (Yamaha)
quickly slotted into second, with
SLR Honda Racing's Mikayla
Nielsen and Turner in close pur-
suit. Nielsen and Turner engaged
in an intense early duel for third,
trading momentum over several
laps before Turner completed the
pass and set her sights on van
Drunen.
As the race wore on, the battle
tightened, but Herrick remained
composed under pressure in her
debut pro race. Delivering a flaw-
