C Y C L E N E W S • JULY 12, 2006 61 Atlantic Grand Prix Series Round 4: Dunmore Grand Prix Massina From Start to Finish BY DALE FREITAS DUNMORE, PA, MAY 27 T wo days of drenching thunderstorms weren't enough to slow down regional AA rider Frank Massina from taking a hard-earned win at round four of the Atlantic Grand Prix Series in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. The day started out beautiful, with a light breeze and temperatures in the low 80s. The course con- sisted of a 7.5-mile mountain loop with two water crossings on the side of Moosic Mountain. The entire track was an MX quad's width, so for the motorcycle racers, passing wasn't an issue. Right from the start, Rock Tavern, New York's Massina grabbed the holeshot and held the lead the entire race. Running a strong second was none other than AGP hotshoe Kevin Oswald of New Berlinville, Pennsylvania. In the number-three position, only seconds behind, was retired National motocross racer Phillip Carlin of Columbia, New Jersey. The top 14 riders were all able to get in four laps in the 1.5-hour event. Riders commented after the race that the track was a little on the slick side, but considering the amount of rainfall, all were impressed with course conditions and planned on attending more of the Atlantic Grand Prix events. In the Pee Wee race, it was young Ethan Jaudas' turn to take an overall win, after regional hotshoe Henry Ferreira's KTM broke halfway through the 45-minute event while he was leading and running first overall. Honda jockey Justin Wilk was second overall, and snagging third overall was Adam O'Rourke, also on a Honda. The Youth course was changed slightly from the previous event and a new spectator section was added down near the pit area. In the Youth Minicycle race, AGP ran the new 3-mile, lower mountain course that includes the lower elevations of the adult course. Right off the start, GNCC Youth rider Dale Wakefield Jr. grabbed the holeshot and held down the lead for the entire one-hour race. Running a strong second was Stephen Harris, and Jeremy Pascale was third. The top three overall were all on Suzukis, making it a yellow sweep. With 12 more races in the 2006 Atlantic Grand Prix series, it's still too early to say who the winner will be at the end of the season. The next race, round five, will be held on the Father's Day weekend at Thunder Ridge MX Park in New Berlin, New York, on June 17 and 18. Six-Gun Shootout Series Round 2: River Valley MX Lee Lays it Down at the Valley BY CHUCK BALL WATTS, OK, JUNE 3 T here was not one cloud in the sky at the second round of the River Valley Six-Gun Shootout Series, and for that, the riders were grateful. All too often, racers and their families have butted heads with Mother Nature, but on this weekend, the mercury settled in at a near-perfect 80 degrees, and complaints were nowhere to be heard. Aboard his ominous Yamaha YZ85, Cody Lee set out to prove to his peers that he was ready for business. When the gate fell for the first 85cc Open moto, Lee pulled the trigger on his blue rocket and never looked back. Doing a great job of holding down second place was Honda rider Cory Papczynski, who stayed ahead of Alex Puttkamer and Corby Shumate all the way to the checkers.
