R ace families from all across the continent took advantage of the NASMOTO Grand Prix of Green Bay to celebrate Father 's Day in Wisconsin. The United States, Mexico and Canada were all represented on both the race grid and the podium. Jamie Siever won the SM2 class, and Omar Isaak topped both the SM1 and Vet classes, while Emerson Connor topped the Premier Mini and Open Amateur classes. Siever got his Scotty's Speed Shop Yamaha 250 off the line first in the Seventy Thirty Racing SM1 final. He dived inside on the first turn and finished stealing the rest of the holeshot. The 15-year-old led Isaak and the rest of the field through the first few turns and onto the back straight. Two- thirds of the way down the straight, it was obvious that he was on a 250. Isaak motored his Innovative Technologies Racing-backed Yamaha 450 past Siever and easily took over the lead. For the next few laps, Isaak would stretch out his legs on the asphalt, only to have Siever catch back up in the dirt sec- tion. Unable to get around, and recogniz- ing just how big the horsepower differ- ence between his and Isaak's mounts was, Siever idled back. He ran the rest of the race in second place, saving himself and his bike for the SM2 250 final. While Isaak and Siever clicked off 12 laps, casually keeping each other in sight, local rider Tim Boblin had his hands full in third place. He took control of the posi- tion after fighting with Kyle Meiers and Cory Gabbert for the first few laps, but then he was unable to shake free. First it was Meiers trying to get around, with Gabbert right behind, looking for a chance to move from fifth to third. A slight bobble saw Gabbert and Meiers swap spots, and for a couple of laps Boblin enjoyed a three-bikelength cushion on his Motorsports Factory KTM. Two laps from the end, the three riders had again tight- ened up, and the position was once again up for grabs. Unbeknownst to Boblin, Gabbert lowsided in the first turn after the white flag; he speed-bumped Meiers enough to also take him out of the running for the position. Boblin was left to race gravity for third. After Meiers got clear, Gabbert jumped right up, bumped his bike back to life, and finished the race in sixth. Isaak, who is currently leading the Mexican National Supermoto Series, was happy with his win. "I wanted to qualify for the final at the Queen Mary, " Isaak said. "This weekend, we don't have a race in our Nationals down in Mexico, so what better than to come here and race? I am very, very happy!" Siever was also happy with what he described as a smart second-place finish. Finishing in third, Boblin did not forget it was Father's Day, and he squeezed his dad onto the podium, along with the tro- phy and the umbrella girl. Siever took his second holeshot of the day in the SM2 final. This time, he was still in the lead after the first time down the back straight, and he never looked back. A few laps later, after a couple of trips through the dirt section, it was obvious the real race was going to be for second. Nicholas Hansen, the youngest member of the H&S Distributing/East Coast Wheels team, was the second racer off the starting line; he tore around the track for the first few laps, leading his brother Chris and the rest of the field, including their teammate Andrea Walsdorf. After fighting a fuel issue with her bike, the first lap Walsdorf actual- ly completed was the warmup lap for the main. Gridded at the back of the field, it took her a few laps to work her way for- ward and catch the lead pack. Siever was running near-perfect laps and was solidly in the lead, while the Hansen boys were running in second and third. Walsdorf was in fourth, with Titan/KTM Canada rider Emerson Connor right behind her in fifth. Connor had been running with all the fast kids since the start, and he wasn't about to be left behind! Walsdorf eventually found her way around Chris Hansen, and at the crossed flags there were two races. Nicholas Hansen was glued to the race line in sec- ond, with Walsdorf right behind. She could push inside and show him a wheel at will, but she was unable to take the position. In control of fourth, Chris Hansen was glued to the same race line as his brother, with Connor right behind him. The young Canadian Mini Champion was really pushing in the dirt section, but he was getting the same treatment as Walsdorf. Neither of the Hansens were about to surrender the line or their posi- tion. The SM2 race finished in that order: Siever easily won, and Nicholas Hansen and Walsdorf finished in second and third. Siever is happy with his improvements so far this year. "I have been working on consistency and trying not to crash," he reported. "Since the Florida round, I switched from Hondas to Yamahas, and I really like the change." As for Nicholas Hansen, even an 11-year-old is winded after a race. "It was tiring," he said. "It is one of the toughest classes. And Andrea was right behind me. I could hear her motor and everything. I saw her wheels coming up. I think it is better to catch somebody than to lead; it is easier!" Chris Hansen held on to fourth, and H&S Distributing riders finished in three of the top four spots in the class! Connor crossed the line in fifth. There were some familiar faces at the front of the combined Amateur Open/Vet race. Isaak, Connor and Boblin were again running at the front of the pack, and they finished one, two and three. Even after pulling off an amazing pass to win the Mini final and taking a strong fifth in the SM2 class, Connor thinks this was the best race of the day. "I was keeping up to Omar," he recounted, "and I made those guys stay behind me. I never got passed." Isaak scored the Vet-class win, while Connor crossed the finish line as the top finisher in the Open Amateur class.
