C Y C L E N E W S • JULY 5, 2006 51 Maita Ford's Employee Night Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway Faria, Bast "Employees" of the Night! BY GARY ROBERTS AUBURN, CA, MAY 26 B art Bast won the Maita Ford's Employee Night Scratch main event, and Mike Faria won the Handicap main, at Fast Fridays Speedway. The Scratch main event came down to two Northern Californians, Bart Bast and T.J. Fowler, facing off against two Southern Californians, Charlie "The Edge" Venegas and Buck Blair. Blair got the gate, but Bast got past him, and as the race went on, so did the other two. Fowler stuck close to Bast, waiting for him to make a mistake, which didn't happen. Mike Faria's bike flooded on the line in his Scratch heat, with fuel leaking onto his exhaust. Flames appeared, and then so did a fire extinguisher; now the fire was out, but so was Faria. However, Faria had no problem in the Handicap portion of the program: He qualified in third place from his heat, won his semifinal, and then easily won the main. Another visitor from Southern California, Rick Valdez, stole the victory in the closely fought Division Two main from newly promoted Jim Lewis and Danny Turner. Bold moves by Josh West only brought him the runner up position. Lewis and Turner were third and fourth, respectively. Despite two restarts, Tom Fehrman rode consistently to win the Division Three main. RESULTS SCR CONSI: 1. Bryan Yarrow; 2. Chad Felicio; 3. Danny Easley; 4. Matt Becker. SCR MAIN: 1. Bart Bast; 2. Florida/Georgia Spring Series Round 5: Dirt Farm Off-road Park Consistency Pays Off for Prentice BY CRAIG AND ANGELA JOHNSON ALMA, GA, MAY 28 T he Florida/Georgia Spring Series paid another visit to Dirt Farm Off-road Park for round five. The days are getting hot- ter as summer approaches, and the racing is heating up as well, with only two rounds left after this one. The track was prepped in anticipation of the heat, and the dust was kept to a minimum. Alistair Prentice used consistency to get to the forefront of the 85cc Beginner class. Prentice went 2-2 to take the overall win on the day. Justin Monge jumped out to the lead in the first moto and never looked back en route to the win. Prentice started in fourth and worked his way into second by the checkered flag, passing Tanner Boyles and then Chris Lasker, but he couldn't make up enough ground to challenge for the lead. Lasker ended up taking third. Dillon Snook hovered in and out of the top five and eventually took fourth, over Boyles. The second moto was all about Cameron Petras, after a fall in the first moto had relegated him to 10th. The Suzuki speedster never let Prentice get close enough to challenge for the lead, as the two ran first and second the entire moto. Derryle Whiting improved on his first-moto score of eighth to follow the top two to third. Hunter Niemiec ran briefly in the top five in the first moto before a fall, but he kept it upright this time out to take fourth. Monge was the one who suffered from a bad start this time, but the Gainesville, Florida, rider worked his way back up to fifth. Prentice came back later in the day to take the 65cc (7-9) class overall. Zack Briar won the first moto, over Prentice, with
