P148 LOOKING BACK June 11, 1986 Rick Johnson came one win away from sweeping the five-round AMA 250 Motocross Championship when he finished second to Je Ward in Lakewood, Colorado. He did take the title and was pictured on the cover 40 years ago... Scott Parker won the Louisville Half Mile... Eddie Lawson won the German Grand Prix at Nurburgring, increasing his points lead over Mike Baldwin and Wayne Gardner. Mike Baldwin June 5, 1996 Italian Grand Prix winner Mick Doohan and Mt. Morris AMA 250cc MX National winner Je Emig shared the cover 30 years ago... We featured an in-depth interview with 21-year-old Anthony Gobert, who said he wanted to be the "best rider," and wanted the "opportunity to beat [Jeremy] McGrath" in Supercross... Ty Davis was the overall winner at the ISDE Two-Day Qualifier in New Waverly, Texas. June 8, 1976 Factory Harley-Davidson flat track bikes from the San Jose Mile were featured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago, and a pair of H-Ds ridden by Gary Scott and Jay Springsteen went 1-2... We had coverage of the AMA 500cc Motocross National from Mexico, New York. Kent Howerton went 2-1 to win... We also covered the 125cc National MX from RedBud held a week earlier. Bob Hannah won.
