Drama as 2026 Isle of Man TT
Gets Underway
T
he 2026 Isle of Man TT got
underway on Monday, May
25, under clear skies and near-
perfect conditions, but the open-
ing day of practice was brought
to an abrupt halt following a
serious incident at Parliament
Square in Ramsey.
A red flag was displayed
shortly before the scheduled
end of practice after an incident
involving a single competitor
exiting Parliament Square. Orga
-
nizers later confirmed that the
rider and eight spectators were
transported to Noble's Hospital,
with all reported conscious. The
rider was said to have suffered
leg injuries.
Following a lengthy delay, of
-
ficials confirmed that all remain-
ing activity, including the open-
ing timed qualifying sessions for
every class, had been canceled
for the remainder of the day as
incident management and inves-
tigation procedures continued.
The interruption means
Tuesday's schedule could now
be revised as organizers attempt
to recover lost track time during
the opening week of qualifying.
As of Tuesday, May 26, no fur
-
ther information was available.
Track action began with the
newcomers' speed-controlled
laps before the Supersport and
new-for-2026 Sportbike classes
completed untimed practice
sessions without issue. Sidecar
crews also enjoyed clean open
-
ing laps as riders reacquainted
themselves with the 37.73-mile
Mountain Course.
Attention then shifted to the
Superbike and Superstock ses-
sions, where many of the event
favorites were expected to make
their first serious statements of
the fortnight. Michael Dunlop on
the MD Racing BMW, Peter Hick-
man on the 8Ten Racing BMW
and John McGuinness aboard
the Honda Racing Fireblade
were among the leading names
circulating before the session
was stopped.
