TrialGP Opener
T
he 2026 FIM TrialGP World
Championship season got
underway in Motegi, Japan, May
16-17, where the Repsol Honda
Team finished 1-2 in the SuperFi
-
nal, where the weekend's points
are reset to zero, with defending
champion Toni Bou taking the
win ahead of teammate Gabriel
Marcelli on their Montesa Cota
4RT bikes. At the end, Bou had
recorded a score of five, bet
-
tering Marcelli's score of eight.
Third overall went to Beta Fac-
tory rider Jaime Busto (11) and
fourth to his teammate Matteo
Grattarola (20). Honda Montesa
Team rider Miquel Gelabert (25)
was fifth on his battery-powered
Honda.
"This weekend was impor
-
tant because it was in Japan,
Honda's home country, and
we achieved the best possible
result, so the overall assessment
is very positive," Bou said. "The
team did a spectacular job this
weekend. At the beginning of
the day, I felt nervous because
everything was so close, but in
the end, I was able to take all
three top spots. I'm very happy
and proud of the team, so in
Andorra, we'll look to continue in
the same vein."
In the weekend's overall
results, Bou took the win over
Busto and Marcelli.
"I'm not happy with how the
first round of the season went,
and I have a lot of work to do
before the next race," Marcelli
said. "Today we managed to fin
-
ish third and get on the podium,
which is positive. I think I felt
much more comfortable with my
riding, but things didn't quite go
as planned."
The 2026 season features a
new competition format, with
races one and two. It all begins
on Friday with the Super Test,
which determines the starting
order for Saturday's race one.
From then on, the format will be
the same as last season.
The big change comes with
race two, which will also be held
on both Saturday and Sunday.
After the first race, the Super
Pole session is held to deter
-
mine the starting order for the
Final. All riders will participate
in this phase and will have to
tackle between four and six sec-
tions. Once these are completed,
the five fastest competitors
will qualify for the Super Final.
With these new regulations, the
podium for each day will be the
combined result of the results
obtained in race one and race
two.
