The British team won 10 of the 20 heats in the day of knockout- style racing, with Robert Lambert and Dan Bewley leading the way on 14 and 13 points, respec - tively, adding to the team's total of 39 points over the 10 other nations competing on the day. Woryna Wins in His SpeedwayGP Debut P olish racer Kacper Woryna made a spectacular full-time FIM Speedway Grand Prix debut, winning round one of the FIM SpeedwayGP in Landshut, Germany, on May 2. Woryna raced his way through a tense last- chance qualifier to reach the final on his first ap - pearance as a full-time SGP rider. The win was extra meaningful for Woryna, as his grandfather won the event twice, in 1967 and 1971. Woryna senior also became Poland's first-ever FIM Speedway World Championship medalist when he bagged bronze in Gothenburg in 1966, a feat he repeated in Wroclaw in 1970. "Obviously, it's really something special for me," Kacper Woryna said. "I knew I was com - peting in SpeedwayGP 60 years after that first bronze medal happened, and it's special. "My grandpa was a legend. You can't re - ally beat what he has achieved in Speedway. I am not trying to com - pete with what he has achieved, but I have always said it is a privi - lege to have the same surname at least." Six-time overall SGP winner Dan Bewley settled for the runner-up spot, battling from last to first in an extraordi - nary heat 19. Defending Speed- wayGP World Champion Bartosz Zmarzlik made a strong start to his quest for a seventh World title with third. Britain's Robert Lam- bert finished fourth. CN OVERALL (Top 5) 1.
