Webb finished closely behind
Roczen for his third consecu-
tive second-place finish. The
defending
champion remains
mathematically in the points
chase, which seems to have lit
a new fire in him, as evidenced
by a recent string of podiums.
Webb looked good in the
less-than-ideal conditions and
continued to jump most of the
rhythm lanes late in the race. He
was the fastest rider on track for
the second half of the race and
gained critical ground while Roc
-
zen faced lapped traffic. Despite
Webb's
effort to cut the gap to
less than a second at one point,
he never got close enough to
make a pass and settled for the
runner-up position. Webb was
visibly frustrated on the podium,
knowing a win in Philly could've
swung the momentum his way.
"It got crazy at the end. I just
went full-send," Webb said. "It's
a bummer to get second after
riding that flawless of a race,
but we were pushing hard. I got
close at the end, but lappers
dictated some of it at the end
and helped Kenny or hurt me, or
vice versa. I felt like tonight was
an opportunity I needed to make
the most of and just didn't quite
pull it off. Overall, a great ride."
MYOWNRACE
a so-so start in the main event. I
unfortunately hit someone and went
down on the first lap, putting me in
last. I made a good charge, but then
they restarted it, and I went from last
to ninth again. Then I went down yet
again and ended up in 14th. It was
a so-so day, but I'm happy with the
progress, even though it was in the
mud with the [heat] win."
