The field quickly spread out as riders navigated the rain- soaked track, with Denno's lead growing to more than six sec - onds over the pack. The Texas native kept his Triumph on two wheels and easily completed a wire-to-wire performance, win- ning by 9.3 seconds, the biggest win of his young career. Johnson went unchallenged en route to a runner-up finish, while Fappani rounded out the championship podium in third. Triumph rider Deacon Denno won the SMX Next race and wrapped up the five-round SMX Next – Supercross AMA National Championship.
