He made up crucial ground
once Hammaker and Bennick
hit the deck and moved around
Husqvarna rider Bennick for
fourth on the final lap. Simonson
is having a breakout season
with flashes of speed all year.
"Truly insane moment,"
Simonson said. "I just never
gave up in the main event. There
was carnage at the front, but I
ended up with my best overall
ever. Coming into this year, my
best result was an eighth, and
that was my rookie year, and the
field was not deep at all. Like I
said, truly insane, I can't believe
it, but sometimes you have to be
in it to win it, and I was there."
The ClubMX Yamaha rider,
Simonson, battled inside the
top five for most of the race just
behind the podium contenders.
he is in the history books with
a podium finish. Unfortunately,
he wasn't able to celebrate his
accomplishment on the podium.
