seventh podium of his 450SX
career in 50 total starts.
"Three fourth places in a row
have been a little bit frustrating,
so it's nice to get back on the
box here," Cooper said. "I think
it was the toughest race of the
year. It was challenging all day,
but our setup worked. There
was a little bit of cat and mouse
in the beginning with Hunter
and Jorge [Prado], and I didn't
do myself any favors there. I
couldn't see Kenny, but I felt
like my pace was good and we
brought it home."
Lawrence made the best of
it as he held on for third overall.
After crashing last weekend in
Detroit, the Honda HRC Progres
-
sive rider was forced to race
with
a sore wrist on the soft St.
Louis soil. He grabbed the hole-
shot in the main event but was
quickly shuffled back to
third as
Roczen and Prado made their
way by. A series of mistakes
looked to have Lawrence off the
box entirely, but he recovered
nicely during the middle of the
main event. Another tipover late
in the race saw him narrowly
hold the position over Prado,
but a third at the line earned him
enough points to reclaim the
series lead. He's now tied for the
red plate with Tomac with just
five rounds remaining.
"My wrist is still really sore
from the crash last weekend, so
I'm happy to still be in the fight,"
Lawrence said. "This track was
so freaking gnarly and probably
the worst conditions for hav

ing a sore wrist. We got in and
out in one piece and got the
red
plate back⦠or sharing it. How
LOVE MOTO
STOP CANCER
The St. Louis round was headlined
by the annual Love Moto Stop
Cancer race, which honors the kids
at St. Jude Children's Research

be auctioned off for fundraising.

SHIMODA SIDELINED
Jo Shimoda went down in the
250SX East heat race, causing the
red flag. He was awake and alert
and transported to Alpinestars
Medical for a lower-leg injury and
assessment. Shimoda did not line
up for the main event. An initial as-
sessment indicated no bone frac-
tures, but Shimoda will undergo
further evaluation this week.
