As the laps wore on, he found his hands full with Coty Schock for most of the race. It looked like Shimoda would settle for fourth, but Schock's crash in the event. He eventually succumbed to Davies' whoop speed, but the Daytona winner showed matu - rity by staying safe in second place rather than risking it to go faster. With four podiums in five rounds, he's still very much in contention for the champion- ship lead. "I got myself off to a pretty good start and was riding okay in the beginning," Hammaker said.
