in the series points, just one
behind Shimoda in third.
"They didn't prep the gates all
day, so I didn't get good traction
out of the gate and was buried
off the start," Davies said. "It
was a good comeback. I did
what I could. I wanted that win,
but still a good ride."
Last week's winner, Brown,
took third at Daytona and holds
the red plate for another week.
It was a much quieter ride for
Brown this time around as he
battled to stay in the top five for
the opening half of the race. His
teammate Davies helped up the
ante, and Brown followed him
through to what looked like a
fourth-place finish. Shimoda's
mishap late in the race pushed
both of the Star Yamahas onto
the podium and gave Brown
third at the checkers. He contin

ues to hold a two-point lead over
Hammaker.
"It was a battle," Brown said.
"Not the best start. I took a gam-
ble with my gate, and we chose
the wrong
one. It happens. We
battled and were there late, even
after other riders made mis
-
takes, to salvage a third. I can't
be too
mad about it. We're in
good shape [in points] and will
keep doing our thing."
Shimoda looked good in sec-
ond but crashed with three laps
to
go and dropped to fourth.
Worse yet, this mistake moves
him down from second to third
in points standings.
"Much better starting point
to a day, but that mistake was
on me," Shimoda said. "But only
two rounds in and happy with
progress, we [are] only going to
be better."

the top five and is fifth in the se
