leader, Pierce Brown.

mentally—how you come back
from that," Hammaker said. "I'm
proud of the effort tonight, and
the team crushed it. It's super
cool to get a win at Daytona. It's
an unreal feeling. It's good to get
this win and keep the momen

lap of the race with a slight
advantage over Jo Shimoda,
who looked hungry for a win
after last week's controversy.
Hammaker's big break came
when Shimoda crashed in the
sand with one minute left on the
race clock, essentially sealing
his first win of the season. It
also ended the dominance of
the Star Racing Yamaha team
that has won every 250 race so
Cole Davies finished on the
box. The Monster Energy Star
Racing rider again suffered from
a poor start as he rounded lap
one in ninth place. This time,
though, he turned up the heat
and looked right at home on
the rough Daytona track. Da

vies continued to work his way
forward and found himself in
podium territory at the halfway
mark. Fortunately for him, Shi

moda's crash bumped him up
a spot and put him second on
the night. Davies is now fourth
