Progressive rider started off
strong in Arlington, taking the
holeshot and immediately creat-
ing a gap of more than three
seconds to
the rest of the field.
After five laps, the red medical
lights displayed, and Shimoda
rolled the double before the fin-
ish line and then the finish line
itself.
His roll was later ruled
unnecessary as Brown jumped
both jumps and used the error
to overtake for the lead. By
the time Brown arrived to the
section, apparently the lights
were out, and Brown overtook
Shimoda for the lead. Shimoda
never managed to regain the po
-
sition, although he stayed close
enough to
make a few unsuc-
cessful pass attempts. Shimoda
had
to settle for second, and
he is three points behind Brown
in the standings heading into
Daytona.
"I saw the red light come
on, and you're not supposed
to jump that, so I don't know
what happened," Shimoda said.
"Overall, it was a good one for
me. I felt rusty all day, to be hon
-
est, but my adrenaline kicked in
for
the race. It's a good way to
start."
Daxton Bennick finished third
on the podium for the third time
in his career. In fact, this is the
third consecutive year Bennick
has finished on the box at round
one. He delivered a strong debut
ride with the Rockstar Husqvar
-
na team as he challenged Brown
and
Shimoda in the late stages
of the race. He stayed close but
never quite managed to pass
either of the top two riders. At
the finish line, he was just a
second behind Shimoda. Ben
-
nick seems to always start the
year
strong, and it will be crucial
for him to maintain this momen
-
tum throughout the rest of the
season.
