Australian MotoGP to be Held
on a Street Circuit

here was a minor tremor
in the MotoGP world in the
week before the final preseason
test. Not only was it confirmed
that the series would no longer
return to the iconic Phillip Island
Circuit from 2027 onward, but
its replacement will be a unique
street circuit in Adelaide, using
much of the infrastructure from
the Formula One race that ran
there between 1985 and 1995.
A six-year agreement has been
made, which will see MotoGP
racing there until 2032. An origi-
nal circuit plan has been drawn
up, including 18 corners, totaling
a little over 2.6 miles and close
to the city center.
The news was greeted with
much dismay on social media
at the thought of Grand Prix
machines racing on a street
circuit. Most of the circuit will
be custom-made, with a heavy
emphasis on safety.
"We've got tracks on the
calendar that have walls closer
than they have there, in terms
of speed and run-off area," said
Jack Miller, who attended the an-
nouncement of the new venture
