Hill Wins Reno Arenacross Doubleheader R ounds seven and eight of the AMA/FIM Arenacross Cham- pionship took place at the Reno- Sparks Livestock Arena on Febru- ary 13-14 for a doubleheader weekend in Reno, Nevada. Points among the series regulars stayed close, but a newcomer stole the spotlight with wins on both nights. Former factory Supercross racer Josh Hill hit the Reno jackpot, while Ryan Breece continues to lead the points chase. Friday night's round seven saw Breece and Cole Thompson trade paint on lap one. Thomp - son's dive-bomb pass put Breece on the ground and looked to be retaliation for an incident earlier in the season. Breece's MCR Honda teammate Austin Politelli took over the lead and aimed to make it two wins in a row after winning last weekend in Arizona. However, Politelli suf - fered an issue and retired from the race. This allowed 36-year-old Hill to take over the top spot as he ran second after passing for positions in the whoop sec- tion. Hill took the race-one win over Robbie Wageman. Breece worked his way back to third after another run-in with Thompson. Breece responded with an early lead in race two and kept it throughout the main event. The Honda rider looked confident out front and made up for his mistake in race one. He took the win ahead of Hill and Thompson. Hill's 1-2 results gave him the overall victory over Breece's 3-1 and Wageman's 2-4. Round eight on Saturday saw Breece start way back in race one, while Wageman started strong. Hill and Jeremy Fappani duked it out for second. Hill eventually passed Fappani and set his sights on Wageman. Hill soon took over and went on to win the race, while Wageman and Thompson round - ed out the podium. Michael Hicks had a big hole- shot. The Arenacross veteran led the opening lap but quickly got swallowed up by the AMA regu- lars. Hill again snuck by for the lead, with Politelli following suit. No one could touch Hill as he made it a clean sweep of round eight. Politelli held on to second over Thompson. Thompson's consistent 3-3 finishes gave him second overall, with Wageman's 2-4 putting him on the overall podium in third. Jeremy Fappani swept the weekend in the AX Lites class with four wins in all four main events. CN Round 7 (Top 5) 1. Josh Hill (Yam) 1-2 2. Ryan Breece (Hon) 3-1 3. Robbie Wageman (Yam) 2-4 4.
