KAWASAKI TRIBUTE The Monster Energy Kawasaki team commemorated the 25th anniversary of Ricky Carmichael's first 250SX title with the team. The retro-inspired graphics were fea- tured on Chase Sexton's KX450 as well as on the display bike from Kawasaki, which was poised next to Carmichael's race-winning KX250. OLDENBURG INJURED It's been a nightmare start to the championship for the Liqui Moly Beta Team. First, Benny Bloss broke his wrist during media day just before Anaheim 1, and now, in San Diego, the team's second rider, Mitchell Oldenburg, sus- tained a broken arm and a con- cussion during the second quali- fying session in the afternoon, which was red-flagged because of Oldenburg's crash. FORKNER OKAY Triumph's Austin Forkner did not line up for the 450SX night show after crashing during his qualifying session. The 450SX rookie fell in a rhythm lane, with the bike crash- ing down on top of him. "I had some pain around my kidney area, so the medical crew wanted me to head to the hospital for checks," Forkner said. "I went there, and everything checked out okay. It all looked okay. I should be fine for Anaheim 2." AIRBAG Following his brutal crash at Ana- heim 1, Justin Barcia confirmed that he was wearing the Alpin- estars Tech-Air MX System, aka airbag.
