to be softer than it was. You had to be really patient on the throttle. Overall, I'm very excited with this second place." Prado might have been the biggest surprise of the night as he finished on the 450 main- event podium, a first time for him. The two-time MXGP World Champion reunited with his KTM roots over the off-season and looked right at home as he won his heat race and later took the holeshot in the main event. Prado held off several former race winners, as well as the reigning Supercross Champion, Cooper Webb, and put two Red Bull KTMs on the podium. "I couldn't ask for a better start to the season," said Prado. "I never imagined myself on the podium, not even close to it. Hunter Lawrence and Prado in the early laps of the main-event race. These early battles left him with a tough task, as Roczen was forced to play catch-up to Tomac's rear end. He got close but never close enough, finish - ing just over a second behind at the line. This is the second year in a row Roczen has podiumed at A1 and starts the season off second in points. "We had an amazing race," Roczen said. "Eli and I were just yo-yoing within one second. The 450 rookie forfeited his transfer spot when he went down during the LCQ and finished 10th. "Today was a tough one for me and not how I expected or would have liked for it to go. I felt good during qualifying, and I had good speed throughout sections of the track. Poor starts and mistakes on my part led to me being out of the mix. I know what the team and I are capable of, and we will show it next weekend. This will be a learning experience for me, and we'll move forward." TRIUMPH'S 450 DEBUT Austin Forkner raced the Triumph TF 450-X with the Triumph Fac- tory Racing team on Saturday, marking a debut night for both parties in the premier class. For- kner made it into the main and tangled with the Barcia/Stewart incident on lap one prior to the restart. He later finished 15th at the checkers. "My riding was good in the main event. It was just a little too much of a roller- coaster. I was figuring out when to push and when to conserve energy. There are many aspects of racing that you run into in the longer 450SX main event. We will make some adjustments this week, but we are close, and it was a solid debut in the premier class for me and the team." Briefly... Jorge Prado enjoyed his first AMA Supercross podium in his first race on the Red Bull KTM team. SUPERCROSS I MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS / SUPERMOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
