onship Series.
Going
into this
year's
Budds Creek race. Carmichael
had never
lost an
AMA l'4otocross National here
since
movin8 up to the
premier
class in
2000, and his latest win
made it seven
straight.
With Team Kawasaki's
lames
Stewart
electinS to sit out the
round in order to
give
his sore
knee a chance to heal
(see
Briefly), Carmichael
had a relatively
easy
time of
thinSs, and other than a brief bat-
tle
with
Chad
Reed dunng
the opening
laps of moto tvo,
perhaps
Carmichael's
only
real concern
may have been the heat
and humidity,
which reached nearly
unbearable levels. However, Carmichael
shrugged
it
off
iust
as easily as he did the
competition
and cruised home
with
a
24-
second margin of
victory in
the
gpening
moto and
,ust
less than half of that in the
second moto,
"We
,ust
tried to
put
ourselves in a
good position
and it turned
out to be a
great
weekend,' Carmichael
said of his
victory
Second
place
was even
a runaway, as
Reed easily took the
position
after run-
ninS solo in second for most of both
motos.
The Team Yamaha
rider continued
his stnng of
podium frnishes,
placing
either
second
or third in everT moto of
the outdoor
National series this season.
