to push him hard on lap five. At one point, Strijbos got a little out ofshape, which let Melotte onto his back wheel. At the same time, Ramon began to reel in Garcia in lifth position. On lap eight, Ramon passed Garcia, and de Dycker moved closer to Melofte in third position, and he eventu- ally passed Melotte for third place on lap I L l'4eanwhile, Striibos was getting closer and closer to Everts, while Belgian riders were now holding on to the top five places: Everts, Strijbos, de Dycker, l'4elotte and Ramon. with two laps to go, there was still plenty of action to be had, as both Ramon and Barragan passed lYelofte, as did Garcia soon after. But that wasn't all, Leok also got around Plilotte before all was said and done. Everts eventually won the moto over Striibos, de Dycker, Ramon and Barragan. ln the second MXI race, Everts again took an early lead, followed by local rider Claudio Federici, Strijbos, Melotte and Leok. Melotte, however, crashed out of contention in the opening minutes, while Striibos and Leok - the two riders who have given Everts the most problems this year - quickly moved anto the second- and third-place positions, respectively, and further back was Barragan and Garcia. Everts broke away from the pack, pulling with him Strijbos and Leok. Ramon had big problems trying to pass Federici and lost a lot of ground on the lead riders. After four laps, Striibos, Leok and Barragan had moved a liftle closer to Everts and looked likely to give the Belgian legend some trouble. Barragan did his best to get by Leok, as Strilbos pushed leader Evens. Everts, though, remained cool, even when the two riders traded places one time for a briet moment. On lap five, Striibos passed Evens, bur Everts passed him straight back. The two nearly collided on a tiSht left- hander handing Evers a slight advan- tage. Within a few corners, though, Evens had turned on the speed and moved away from Striibos by three bikelengths. As he has done all year long, Everts put it on cruise control and remained five or six bikeslengths away from Striibos to win the moto by eight seconds. With Leok and Barragah now losing ground on the two leaders, de Dycker disappeared from the top 10. and, on lap seven was in lTth position. Elarragan then had a big crash, ending his day. The openinS moto of rhe l''lX2 class saw some brilliant racing with four rid- ers being involved in some amazinS battles. At the start of the race, Antonio Cairoli took the lead. followed closely by David Philippaerts and Tyla Rattr-ay. Cairoli and Philippaerts then had a small fight until Philippaerts took the lead. Moments later, Cairoli and Rattray began fighting for second and third place, with Cairoli gerting the upper hand. Then. Raftray 8ot passed by both Sebastien and Christophe Pourcel. Marc de Reuver had a terrible start, beginning the opening lap outside the top 20, but he worked his way into ninth place at race end. loMrhan Bararan (166)1 7. Pascl leuret (1.7)i 8.
