Bell, Norman Win Baia 5OO lAgainl Llonda's two factory teams captured I lthe top two overall motorcycle positions and Class 22 win at the 38th runnint of the Tecate SCORE B4a 500 on June J. Riding a Honda CRF450X, Robby Bell and his teammate Kendall Norman completed the course in eight hours. 59 minutes and four seconds, averaging 47.22mph. Second ovemll and in Class 22 was the Honda team of Steve HenSeveld and Mike Childress, who completed the race in 9:09;20 on a Honda XR650R. ln an unprecedented finish in SCORE racing, Class 30 riders Brian Pinard and Ron Wilson tied for the class win and third overall among motorcycles, both riders finishing with identical times of 9:45:10. Pinard and teammates Taber Murphy and Jonah Street rode a Honda XR650R, while \ryilson and teammate Scott Myers rode a Honda CRF450X. Ra8a, meanwhile, wa5 only fifth at the end of the fir$ loop. though the scores were close- Bou continued his unstoppable march in the second loop, but thanks to a couple of fives in sections 12 and 13, he saw his advantage reduced to one point. But it was enough to beat Raga and a f8hting Cabestany. The second day saw Bou sta.tint off badly, as he failed section one. And again Fuiinami suffered in the indoor-styled sections l3 and 15. Thelapanese ace had been sharintthe lead with Cabestany before he crashed in sectaon 13, allowing both Raga and lampkin to move ahead of him. Ar the halfilvay mark, Cabestany led, over Raga and Lampkin. Cabestany kept his concentration high for rhe rest of the trial to pick up his first victoD/ of the season. Raga was again second, with Lampkin third. Morio Condellone Lafferty Whales in Wellston Mike Lofferty rccorded his lhird Nolionol Enduro win of the yeor in Ohio. On what was one of the toughest courses of the year, fiM's Mike Lafferq/ held on to win hrs third enduro of the AlvlA Spo(s FMF Racing National Championship Enduro Senes rn Wellslon, Ohio, onJune 4. Desprte ridrng wi!h a sore knee, Lafferty, aboard a 400 EXC, established an early lead and held it throughout the two- loop, approximately I 70-mile enduro. KTM riders filled the top three posi- tions on the podium, with Lafferty takinS the win, followed by Stephen Edmonson and Russell Bobbitt. Gas Gas rider Fred Hoess finished fourth, while]ohn Barber rounded ou( the top flve. KTl"1 pilots Mark Hyde and Rich t-afferry llnished sixth and sevench, respec- tively. Antonio 8ou and Albert Cabestany split wins in theJapanese round of the World Trials Championship in f4ot i, Japan, June 3-4, rhe Spaniards dominating both days of action. Despite the success of those t!vo, Adam Raga finished second on both days to extend his lead in the championship over Repsol Montesa HRC'S Dougie Lampkin. With half the championship gone, RaSa is leading by 18 points over Lampkin after starting the season with ovo wins and four seconds, For once, despite being held durint the rainy season, the .lapanese round took place in dry and warm conditions. For the flrsr time in the seven-year history of the GP oflapan, all of which have been held at Honda's Motegi circuit, Japan't Takahisa Fuiinami didn't linish on rhe podium. Fuiinami shrted very well on day one, but by section five he'd been overtaken by Cabestany. Bou was also jutt behind, while Rata and Lampkin gathered heavy fives in section two, for differ- ent reasons.
