AMA Pro Racing and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca have announced that the AMA Lockhart Phillips USA Formula Xtreme Series will run at the upcom- ing Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway LaSuna Seca in Monterey, Cali- fornia, July 2l-23. AMAs Formula Xtreme class will ioin the AMA SuPer- bike Championshap presented by Parts Unlimited, Pro Honda Oils SuPersport Championship presented by Shoei, and the P€psol Lubricants Superstock Series. "We're pleased to be able to add For- mula Xtreme to the AMA program for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix," said AMA Pro Racing vice president of commercial development lohn C. I am very disappointed that things lurned out this way, as I had hoped to be able to work with others to make some much- needed changes and improvements to racing and at the AMA. But the facts are that in the approximate 90 days that the committee has been in existence, very little has been accomplished, ln the name of the sport, I really do wish the AMA and its Racing Committee well as it moves ahead. Racing is such an impor- tant aspect of our whole motorcycle sport and economy that thq/ must suc- ceed. lt is my hope that they will, in time, come together as an effective working group and meet or exceed the expectations that the sport and industry have for them." American Honda has announced that a Honda Rune motorcycle was given to Matt lonsson, crew chief for race winner Sam Hornrsh Jr. at the 2006 lndianapolis 500.
