"l was surprised to win the Grand Prix because of yesterday," de Reuver said. Second-placed David Philippaerts en,oyed his return to the podium. The CHAMP KTM team rider, Philippaerts, has not shown brilliant speed this year, althou8h in Bulgaria, he was on the gas and finished with 3-3 scores- "The bike is now perfect for me," Philippaerts said. "ffhe teaml has helped with the suspension setup and some other moditications, and lfeel good on the KTM. Todaythe races were really fast, and lhad two decent stafts which helped." Pourcel struggled a little around the superfast Bulgarian circuit, which turned wet and soggy for moto two after a dgwnpour, but he still managed to flnish in third place, Lapped riders, he said, cost him any chance of taking the overallvicto- ry and extending his series points lead. "l'm furious - I didn't see any blue flag during the second race," Pourcel said of the lapped traflic. "When I came back to second in the first race, lfound a place where it was possible to pass [moto-win- ner Antoniol Cairoli on the last lap, but he changed his line and I missed out. ''ln the second heat, I made a gap in the first part of the race, and I controlled my rivals when I came through the lap- pers," Pourcelsaid. "The race changed, as they didn't move - they didn't know that I was comingl I lost my ad\rantage, and it was a good opportuniq/ for my ri ls to catch me. I came here to get a podium and I got it, but I'm disappointed to lose the race iust because some l+pers didn't ln the MXI class, series leader Stefan Evens went l-l for another victory. Around the fast Sevlievo Circuit, Everts iust looked in total command, but while his ri\rals didn't let him get too far ahead in both motos, it was obvious that Everts was doing iust what he had to do to win. Second overall was Kevin Strijbos with 2-2 results, while Steve Ramon was third overall scoring 3-3 flnishes. ''Every iace is a new race," Everts said. ''So far lam able to keep the pace up and even with the rainy condition I was okay I had to take my goggles off, and at one stage, I had a lot of mud in my eye, and I had to slow down," Suzuki's Kevin Strijbos has been the only rider to consistently race with Everts but is still nearly I00 poins behind his fel- his lightning speed has obviously returned, as the Flyin8 Dutchman went 6-l for the overall victory at a wet Grand Prix of Bulgaria. It was only the second GP win by de Reuver, and he is now just two poins off series leader Christophe Pourcel in the championship points. De Reuver actually finished equal on points (40) on the day with fellow KTM factory rider David Philippaen and series leader ChristoPhe Pourcel, but the Dutchman got the over- all due to his better second-moto flnish. De Rewer, who was involved in a crash in his Saturday qualification heat, went through to Sunday's program via 45 JUNE 14,2006 .
