Toseland made up seven
places
on one
lap, but Barros, a notoriously bad srarter
and with an
iffy clutch on
his second bike,
was
lTth at the end of the first
lap,
some
six seconds
from leader Haga.
Corser crashed on lap two, at the
tight
woodcote
Chicane,
and eventually
restart-
ed, dead
last,
Xaus set a
new lap record on the third
circuit, a
l:25.847, from founh
place.
The
leading four were
leaving Muggeridge
until Toseland
passed
his teammate on lap
four, as Pitt did
it before the end of the
fourth
lap.
Hill, having to
do
something
special
to
pass
Kagayama, cracked it and started to
make up
ground
to
the leaders, sitling in
ninth
place
for a while.
Corser
pulled
out on hp
fou( his race run.
Xaus,
in
third
place,
looked as though
he would
pass
Bayliss, and
at Abbey he
smashed
past
the
Aussie and held it on
line to sit second, Despite his
pass
he
still
took a new lap record
again, and almost
as fast as Gregorio Lavilla's
British
Superbike record, set
on Dunlops.
With Toseland slowing to set a
l:28.2,
Pilt went
past
him, until
Toseland scored
fifth again on lap eight.
