Coolbeth came ba.k to win the first heat,
over
Varnes
and Kopp- Shaun Russell was able to
take the last
transfer spot from Shawn Baer.
Heat two went to Murphree,
over King and l,lees.
Young Pro-Sport rider Hittle grabbed
the last transfer.
Daytona winner Bryan Smith was left in the
pits,
tryinS
to repair his Honda,
and was forced to the semi.
Suzuki riders
Johnson
and Bigelow dominated heat
three, with Pearson in third. Four of
the
young
lions
were battling over the last transfer
spot. Aaron King,
Clayton Riggle, Logan Myers and lon Stear all had a shot,
but Myers ended up on the
ground
in turn three and
Stear ended up in the main.
The semi would send four more riders to the
l6-rider main- Motorc),clistt Post-backed
Myers
got
the
holeshot, over Baer
and
Riggle,
but all eyes were on
Smith. as he was charginS to the front from his
back-
row
start. Smith's charge was short-lived, however,
as
he
tried to
go
around the outside of Baer
Soing
into tum
three. Smith's handlebar clipped Baer's
exhaust
pipe,
and
Smith hit the
ground.
Riggle held on for third,
bring-
ing Aaron King
along into the main.
Lebanon, Missouri's Ricky Anderson
won the
l5-rider,
l5Jap
VintaSe
main on his
pristine
Harley-
Davidson. Early race leader
Jerry
Cheney brought his
Honda home second, with Yamaha
rider Randy
Blackwell, Honda rider Ron Endecott
and Yamaha
pilot
Chadwick Beckley rounding out the top five.
Cheney had won the first heat, over
Chadwick
Beckley, Darrell Bragg and Dan Reichen. The second
heat went to Anderson, with Endecott, Blackwell,
Lance Fox and Matt McCracken
giving
