The Strong s were very disgusted with the cove.age that Cycle News provided for the recently comfleted Las Vegas World Mini Grand Prix - more speciflcally, in the lack of coverage of the newly formed Women's class (of which their daughter won). Cycle News, I have a solution to this dilemma. All you have to do is hire me to cover the event in 2007. l'll write-up every sinSle class, so no one is left qut. Of course with 2500-plus entries over numerous days of racing, Cycie News will have to devote about 20 pages of their fine publication to fit it all in- Everyone should be happy then. GreS RoDeitron Polmdole, CA some people had getting in, due to the enormous popularity, but most did man- age in a timely fashion. We are currently workinS on confirminS every entr/ and posting them on www.mammothmotocross.com as soon as possible. We will continue to provide high- quality event promotion and stay responsi- ble to our land use and partners in doing so. We are looking forward to seeing every- one in a few week. Remember, bring your skis and boards as we will still be open for skiinS until the Fourth of July, The day one (May l) statistics are as fol- lows: 2.4 million hits; 522,000 page views; 28,000 unique visitors. Mike Colbert io the l.rteroet On around the third ro last lap, Cassidy carne around so I started looking for the rest of them. Shortly after he went by, Alexander and Brandon passed me in the dirt. I looked behind Brandon and there wasn't anyone right there. After they went by I caught and passed a guy on a KTI'4, and later that same lap I thought I heard someone behind me so I took a peek and saw who I thou8ht was the guy I had iust passed on the KTl"l. On the last lap, though, someone went flying off the track next to me and I realized that it was David Pingree. I let him regroup and catch back up and let him by in the same dirt turn where I had my earlier incident. lnstead of going by and finishing the race, he followed me offthe racing iine and tried to roost me and shook his head- I was already pissed about what had happened on lap three and his liftle gesture sent me over the edge. I said a few things about his mama, and when we crossed the finish line he checked way up and waited for me. After some more mudslinging from both of us, he reached out with his nasty liftle foot and kicked me in the side- David stopped his bike and appeared to be getting off, to I dropped my bike and started over toward him. I was prepared for a good old-fash- ioned dust-up, but he took off like a little schoolgirl with his skirt pulled up between his legs. I was able to return the favor once we got back to the pit entrance. However, we are not even, and the water is not quite under the bridge yet- I have raced in every single AIYA Supermoto event that they have ever had, and I have never been accused of the things that Pingree has said. I have been lapped plenty of times in the past and have never been accused of blockinS or being dangerous. As a matter of fact, people, on several occasions, have said that l'm the nicest person in the pits- I pride myself on that reputation, and I am extremely irritat- ed that what he said was put into print for all to see. Hopefully, those who know me will dis- regard it and those who don't will not pass iudgment. As far as David "not caring for me," the feeling is more than mutual. As for Steve Atlas lthe reporter who covered the event... Editorl, l'm not taking a dig at you when I say that l'm irritated that it was put into print. I understand that you iust have to do your iob. Mon Pufiley vid the lnternet Defending Mammoth Jeff Uniack vented on the Mammoth Motocross staff because he was unable to properly process his entry on line. Like Mr. Uniack, I also enioy the motocross as a family vacation, and would be very dis- appointed if I was unable to 8et an entry. But please remember: The staff you accuse of mismanagement is the same staff that has time and time again made the Mammoth MX such a well-organized and incrcdibly fun event. lf it weren't such a great race, would you still complain about not getting an entry? Probably not. An awesome motocross in a beautiful resort setting - isn't that the rea- son Mammoth is one of your preferred famit Yacation destinations? tim Horris vid the ,mel.rret Mammoth Responds ln response to the letter from Jeff Uniack (Voices, lssue #19, May l7), I wanted to say that the response to the openinS of entries for the 2006 Ford Mammoth lYotocross was overwhelming. The sheer number of registrants for our event this year was unbelievable. We at Mammoth went away from the nightmare of using the fax machine at midnight, and found an out- standing online alternative with XBux. We wanted the process to benefit the user and promoter, as this is a massive amount of intormation to dealwith. We had developed the event and educated users on the process that was to take place. We set up the event to open at 8 a.m, and included limits on each class, and had them set to close as each limit was reached. About 15,000 users stood poised by their comput- ers when the event opened. Some classes filled up in less than two minutes. Our online registration company, XBux, processed 3000 entries in less than l0 min- utes. Some classes lilled up between select- ing the class and the process of reachinS the credit-card screen! By permit, our event only holds so much, and we are unable to exceed that capa
