U
I r all came down to the last laD
in the
I iockhart-Phillios USA Formula
!
^aa"a"
race at
rnrrneon Raceway
I .nd there was Dlentv
ol excitement.
I tn" tz-tup.ice
had been
a battle
between
Yamaha
teammates
Jason
DiSal-
vo and
Eric Bostrom.
Each had spent
time
at the front: Bostrom
led
laps one
through
I0, DiSalvo
ll through 15,
And
they each led the
final lap.
Bostrom
was
qlricker
in the turn
six
Carousel for the
run up to the
turn 7-7A
double
right-
He went inside DiSalvo
for
the lead. but ran
wide in the
short chute
between seven and 7A. as
he'd done on
the
previous lap. But this
time he moved
down
on the 7A exit with
Disalvo farther
on the
inside,
in the loose-rubber bits
where there was
no traction.
When
Disalvo
applied
power
to his R5, the
rear
stepped out violehtly
and repeatedly.
Disalvo
wrestled
it to a draw, but
had to
watch as Bostrom
drew away.
The marSin
of victory was 8.
I
08
seconds.
"lt's
been
a long time
since I've won
here, so
it feels really
good,"
Bostrom
said.
''This
track
has always been a
favorite
to come to since
they fixed
it, and
I
iust
never
really
Eot
the results l've been
looking
for. So it was a big
change
for us."
The
pair
had
had a dress
rehearsal in
the
same
place
a
lap earlier-
Bostrom
went up
the inside
Soing
into turn seven,
Disalvo took it back
on the 7A exit.
On
the
final lap Bostrom repeated
his
move. as did DiSalvo.
"l
had closed
the line up on
him, and he
was
way down there
in the
marbles,"
Bostrom
said.
"So
I knew he was risking
a
lot down there.
I obviously
didn't want to
get
into
any sort of, well,
iust
didn't want
ro Elke out
my leammate.
He's leading
the
championship and stuff.
So I
gave him
a little bit
of room,
and that was
probably
a
good thing for him."
"l
was getting on the
gas, and had the
thing cranked
over, and
it
iust
started to
come around
on me, and
I knew if I let off
he was
going to
get ahead of me, and then
it would be tough
gettin8
back
by,"
Disalvo
said.
"So
I
iust
opened it up
and
tried to
get
the thing
to
grip, and it
iust
stepped
out
pretty good.
and then
it
threw me up, and came
down,
and I came
right back
down on the seat, and
I stayed
on the throttle,
because
I wasn't
Siving
uP
that easy,
The bike's
going to have to
work harder
to throw
me off than that,
And
it spit me up again,
I miSht've done
it
a thrrd trme,
I
don
t know- But I'm
going
to
have to
go
ice down some
areas before
the
qualifying. I'm
pretty
sore."
At that
point
all
DiSalvo cared
about
was
points. He remains in the chamPi-
onship lead
with 133,
l3 more rhan Erion
Honda's
losh
Hayes, founh today,
and 23
up on Bostrom,
who
moved up to third
with
his second win in a
row.
''Well,
I've
got
to
keep winninS them;
that's
our only shot at
getting
back
up
toward
in the
hunt for this thing,"
Bostrom said.
"l
think
it's obviously
a lot
to
ask, because
he's been the
guy
to beat
all
year
He's been
sefting the
pace.
So to
beat
him at every
race is our
iob,
and
that's what we're
going
to set
out to do.''
Bostrom's
I I FX win moved him
into
a
tie with American
Honda's
Jake
Zemke

rides coming my
way, so this
was a really
unique opportunity,"
he said.
Though
he was
happy to finish the
race,
he wished that
leremy
McWilliams
had finished
the race on the
Hal's H-
D/Buell/
Warr's of London
H-D/Buell
XBRR. Mcwilliam5
dropped
out on lap l0
with an electrical
problem.
"The
guy is
iust
literally
leagues ahead
of
anybody here,"
Really said.
"lt's
tough
for a
general club
guy
like
me to be a
teammate
with
leremy
Mcwilliams who's
got more experience
than anybody
I
know
And I know
what the bike can
do, I
iust
don't have the
talent to
8et
it to do
what he
does."
