'After our qualifying results, I feel pret- ty good about second place," said Yates, who'd qualilied lifth. Yates said he went after Hacking for a few laps, but said, ''l could tell I wasn't going to catch him. I got to slidin8 around a Eood bit. the eighth lap, less than 50 percent of the race distance. And after a 24-minute inter- val, AMA race officials declared the race complete, even though it was less than half complete. The reasoning was solid.
