Costo Meso, CA 92626 Todoy Donqte STEELVILLE, MO, APR. 23 I A ,hen SCR /amaha nder S(eve Leivan pulled off rhe wrn- YY n,ng pa:s wirfr rime runninS out ar the previous Mrlsoun Hare Scrambles Championship round, he claimed, "lt doesnt get much closer than that," Well, this week, at round four of the series - the Nasty Creek Hare Scrambles - it did Eet closer, but Leivan was able to snatch anorher victory his second ofthe season. "Whar a cool racel" exclaimed the Leo Vince/Dunlop/ Acerbis/BeriuArai-backed Leivan Aaron "[Shaw] and I were roSether the whole da, and the last half we were realt pushinS it. He held me off until ritht before the end, but I was able to just slip past v/ith about 15 or 20 seconds left. lt was pretty intens€ that last lap." Four l2-mile laps w€re in store for the front-runners, and l4ark Gay iumped out to the early lead when the AA riders blasted down the creek at the start. Before the pack entered the woods section, Leivan had taken over, and Shaw had gone with ham. Durin8 lap one, Leivan and Shaw handed the lead back and fonh. pullinSthe pack along with them. Lap one saw nin€ riders iust one minute apart, and after lap two, there were still eiSht in that front pack. While Lei\ran and Shaw led most of the time, Caleb Wohletz took a brief lead near rhe end of lap tvvo before dropping back due to problems. While Lei.ran led the troops out for the third lap, Shaw used a slick line throuth the creek to take over A couple of riders who just race every now and then - Ken Yount and Brock Busenbark - were showinS they still had it by running third and fourth, while Gay w"s in fifth, just l5 seconds down. Shaw stepped up the pace, and by the end of lap three, only Leivan had 3one with him. Both riders th€n stopped for fuel, and the WR2soF-mounted Leiv"n tot out the quickest. Yount came in 50 se.onds later and stopped in the pits, while Chris Nesbift blasted into third \,rith Busenbark hot on his tail. Shaw went around Leivan in the same spot as on the previous l+, and once again the battle was on! HavinS already dropped Eheir lap times by more than a minute, Shaw and Leivan pi.ked up the pace even more. Solid in front, Shaw defended every pass attempt Leivan made. As the two riders worked their way throuSh lapped riders, loose boulders, and rock/ creek beds, they were never more than a few feet apart. Entering the final Srass-track sectiofl. Leivan tried to drift around the outside of Shaw but couldn't get by. What th€ pass attempt did do was set Leiv'm up to slide undern€ath when Shaw bobbled in the next tum. From there on, Leivan kept it pinned to beat Shaw by a bikelenSth. Busenbark completed the podium with a Breat performance on his 450X Honda. Nesbitt took fourth, and Gay rounded out I 7r ,a,, L-, t,/ fl ( D" _" I 7 ,+ t.. .t Tf \ l t' '.i.
