Ward was untouchable once he moved into first place, despite a not so stellar start. Nick Burson had claimed the holeshot at the start, and was riding flawlessly until he crashed while avoiding a lapper Burson's crash allowed Oakley Lehman to take over the first place position followed by Ward, however Lehman would even- tually fade. ''l haven't been iacing much and start- ed fading after my arms pumped up,'' Lehman said. Ward made the pa5s on Lehman to take the lead, while a hard- charSing Bobby Garrison was on the move from sixth place up to second. "l got a really bad start, and when we hit the pavement I realized I needed to gear back down some more," Garrison said.
