Easter Sunday was the season-op€nin8 race for Dirtworld f4X, located in Dorset, Ohio, The AMA District 12 track is laid out on a relatively flat piec€ of land, with numerous challentint man-made obstacles. A beautiful blue sky and temperatures in the upper 50s made for treat ra.e condkions, and the track was an perfect shape. Eowers, the reiSning 250cc Open B l.lodified National Champion, made a stop at Dirtworld and entered three classes- The MirenSo, Ohio, native showed his national- caliber form as he mastered the supercross- style track in ihort order Lboard a Oavid Bailey Replica Honda CRF450, complete with the number one and yellow backgrounds. Tyler Bowers gave the onlookers flashbacl..s to the mid-'8os as he decimated the competition with his "Sailey-esque" st/le. Nihe racers lined up on the Sate for the l25cc B class. One of them was Bowers. Of course he won. but kudos 80 to local guy Kenny Henry ThouSh he was unable to actually ra.e with the champ, Henry, on his KTM, did keep him in si8ht, which was quite an accomplishment. T.J. Phillips broutht his Kawasaki in for third. Bowers also was entered in the l25cc (12-15) class. This class mimics the old Schoolboy class, in which both l25cc two- strokes and 250c€ four-strokes can all compete toSether. Tyler swept both motos for first overall. Yamaha-mounted E ric F4errimafl finished second overall, and Jefi Farris came in third on his Honda. The 250cc/Open B contest should have been a shoo-in for Bowers, but when he and Dan FerSuson iump€d the gun and left with the wrong Sroup on the staSSered start. they were both rewarded with last-place finishes for the moto. Cor) Nething aook the moto win, with Ty'€r Sandusk/ taking second and Eric Hamilton third. Everybody left on the right gate for the second moto, and Bowers 8ot the wrn, Hamilton took second and Sandusky was third. \rr'hen all wEs said and done, Hamilton took the overall win on his Honda. Sahdusky Eot second on his Yamaha, and NethinS (ame in third, also Bowers wasn't the only ".elebnq/" on hand racing at Dirtworld. Freesty'e motocross legend Trevor vines wa5 also entered in a couple of classes. Vines - who now calls Pierpont, Ohio, home - made the s-mile trip up the road to try his luck. He took the overall wins in both the Over 30 ,y'B class and the 250(. /Open A class, riding a Yamaha 12250. REsuLrs course of the next few laps, Ziolkowski Put passes on Raasch and lohnson, and he set his sights on Pumfrey. Pumfrey had the lead as laP five staned, but Ziolkowski was riSht behind ham. As they made their way out of the back section, it was Zolkowski in the lead, and he was first across the finish line. Pumfrey held on for second, lvhile Raasch made his way around lohnson to take third. Pumfrey grabH the holeshot an rnoto avo, but soon Chad Lindahl was leadinS lap one. Pumfrey was second, wkh Vinr Provenzano in third. Lindahl never felt any pressure from anyone as he rode a much better moto after takrng fiith in moro one, and he went on to win. Lindahls 5-l linishes netted him third overall. Pumfrey had a very consistent day, Soing 2-2, which was all he ne€ded to take the overall. Ziolkowski was able to make his way up to third. taking second over3il. ln the l25cc C portion, Faul Young was the leader of lap one in moto one, followed byjohn Medcall Yount and Medaalf maintarned thes€ positions for three laps, but by the time they starled lap four, James Ziesk had enter€d the picture. Ziesk was ridinS well, and he made his way around bo$ Hedcalf and Youn8 to take the win. Young finished in second, with l'4edcalf taking*ird. Ryan l.lyers grabb€d the holeshot in moto two, which w_rs a sign that the finishing order was not toing to t€ th€ sarne as it had been rn moto one. Not all thin8s changed, though. as Ziesk made his way into the lead once a8ain, taking his second moto win and the overall. Ty'er Mclntorh had only managed a sixth-place finish in moto one. but he put in a Sreat ride in moto two to take lecond place, which Save him third overall. Young put in another solid ride, takin8 third - which, combined with his second in moto one, gave him second overall, Sevefl riders took to the track in the 85.. Senior (12-15) class, but they only got in one moto before the rains came. The holeshot went to Alex Rozboril, with lacob Kelsey one bikelength ba.k. Kelsey made quick work of Rozboril, openin8 up an eight-second lead after one lap. Kelsey never looked back from that point on, grabbing the win.
