Eastside racers returned to the track in droves as Baja MX Lhek its openlnr evenr of the 2006 motocross season. The track was in great shape, which is no surprise to the riders that frequent the District 14 pow€rhouse on a reEUIar bses. Chris Lueth took a pair of overall victories, winnin8 both the Over 25 and Over 30 classes after winning a moto in each class. Mean- while, Richard Grey was the one to beat in the 65cc Senior and S5cclunior clasres - yet no one was up to that task. Lueth got off to a good stan in moto one of the Ov€r 25 class and was riding well. He took the lyin by outrunnin8 CraiS Bland. Lueth has circled the Baia facility for years. and his familiarity with the Erounds served him well. Bland had a Eood ride goin8 all moto long but was just off the fast pace set by Lueth. Jasin Kioller ran strong throughout the moto, crossinS the finish line in third. Ray Roehlk and.lustin l'4cLosky were the last ovo riders inside the top llve. ln moto two, Chad l'4iller Brabbed the win, but a DNF in moro one eliminated his chences for a Bood overall finish. However, Miller was ridang for prade - and a chunk of the per moto Over 25 cash payout. Lueth Save chase throughout the moto, but in the end the.rafty veteran knew that a runner-up finish in moto two would still net him the overall- Miller's re- emerSence dropped everyone back a spot in moto twoi Bland (2-3) finished third in moto two but still scored the second- place points with his two podium finishes. Kioller and Roehlk had a Sood race over the las. two spots in the top five, with Kioller gettinS the nod for fourth over Roehlk on the last lap. Fifteen riders rolled off the Sate for the first 85cc Junior moto. The fiM-mounted Grey rounded the first turn with the throttled pinned. Hot on his heels were Joey Hale, Brandon HorEmiller. jacob Grzebinski, Tyler Reemer and Ryan l'4oesle. all flyin8 in tiSht formation has th€y headed up "Kong." Grey r,{as liShtning-fast, never looking back en route to the win in moto one. Hale nailed down second. turninS in a great ride aboard has new red rocket. Honzmiller moved past Grrebinski to finish third in the first go-around. ln moto two, Grey was off the Sate like a shot once aSain and looked comlortable out front - a spot he would never relinquish. Hale \ /as a formidable opponent all day long. but in the end he couldn't match Grey's speed and was forced to settle for second in both motos, Grzebinski was on the l3s in moto two and fou8ht his way into third (which would mirror his ov€rall finish), dropping Reemer to fourth.
