Clint McBain set an outright track record on the Nelson course at Shannonville Motorsports Park on April 30, accordin8 to Pirelli. Motorcyclists at Ride For Kids events in California and North Carolina combined to raise $314,586 for childhood brain-tumor research on Sunday, May 7. At the l5th annual Los Angeles event, aiders raised a record amount, turning in more than $232,200 in donations. The third annual Triangle Area event also posted its best results ever, more than doubling last year's total, with over $82,300 raised. All pro- ceeds benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Fortunately, the iniured knee is not the left one, which has been troublesome for the Frenchman in the past. According to KTM, Tortelliwill be out of action for at least five months. The knee iniury comes after the luckless rider recently dislocated his hip. N lewly crowned live-time AIYA Supercross ! \aChampion and nine-lime AMA Motocross National Champion Ricky Carmichael har signed a deal to race for Suzuki for three more years, though his Supercross schedule will be hand- picked. Carmichael is slated to bedn defense of his AMA Motocross Championship on l4ay 2l at HanStown, but in 2007 he will beSin a season that will see him aompete on a part-time basis in Supercross. "That decrsion came about before the series started," Carmichael said. "l feh that l've done enough. I wanted !o say it earlier, but the liming wasrlt right. I didrlt want to give [his .ompeti- tors] any more motivrtion. I think they knew anyway. l've got a selected Supercross and motocross schedule next year - I'll let everyone know the events I'm goint to race after I decide which ones. I have the option to race a full yean but I doubt it." Cemichael sitned with Makita Suzuki at the beginning ol the 2005 Supercross season and that year won the World Supercross GP Championship, the AMA Supercross Championship, the AMA l'lotocross Championship, and the U.S. Open of Supercross, and led Team USA to viclory at the t"lotocross des Nations.
